Vaneaxial fans are highly efficient axial flow fans designed for static pressures up to 10”. We also offer the compactness and in-line configuration of axial flow fans. The vaneaxial fan is the workhorse of the Hartzell line of duct type fans. These fans come in several different configurations.
Belt Drive Vaneaxial Fan, High Temperature
For installations where air is hot or contaminated, the Series 55 High Temperature Vaneaxial will provide substantially longer service life than standard belt drive vaneaxial fans. Belts, bearings, sheave and shaft are enclosed and protected from the airstream. Standard sizes are 12 through 60″.
In contrast to standard vaneaxial fans, the design configuration of the Series 55 places the drive assembly on the negative pressure side of the propeller, drawing ambient air outside the system through the belt tube, in and over the belts and bearings. This allows use in applications where the fan is handling air up to 350°F (if the ambient temperature does not exceed the motor rating).
High-temperature vaneaxial fans are available with either the “VA” or “VB” type wheel. Both “VA” and “VB” type impellers have a one-piece, cast-aluminum, airfoil design. Type VA are mounted with split- taperlock bushing. Type VB are straight-bore mounted against a shaft shoulder. Both are designed to work efficiently at high static pressures.
The VA wheel is scientifically designed to move large volumes of air at high pressures. The large hub prevents backflow of air, which is an important feature in the design of this wheel.
A low pitch and a higher hub-to-diameter ratio make the VB impeller more effective than VA models in high-pressure applications moving a relatively smaller volume of air.
A separate vane section containing guide vanes is located on the discharge side of the fan. Nine heavy- gauge, steel discharge, guide vanes are welded in the casing. These aerodynamically designed straightening vanes maximize efficiency by minimizing turbulence and converting velocity pressure to static pressure for increased capability.
Special Duty Direct Drive Duct Vane Axial Fan, Type VA
Series 50 Special Duty Direct Drive Vaneaxial Fans are available in sizes 12 to 60″. The fans are designed for mounting in any position from horizontal to vertical. Air deliveries range from 1,930 to 123,000 CFM. Units are designed to be used from 2 to 5″ static pressure. Their rugged, two-piece design makes them a natural fit for mine and marine applications.
Housings are heavy-gauge, welded steel with one section containing support for the cast aluminum prop and motor. Rigid motor mounts provide support for the foot-mounted motor that is furnished as standard. The second section contains the vanes, which are aerodynamically designed to straighten out the airflow. The vanes are welded to the inner and outer shells, forming a rigid section.
The VA wheel used in the Hartzell vaneaxial line is an airfoil design, seven-bladed, one-piece impeller, developed and proven after many years of tests and thousands of installations. It is scientifically designed to move large volumes of air at high pressures. The large hub prevents backflow of air, which is an important feature in the design of the wheel.
Direct Drive Vaneaxial Fan, C-Faced Motor
The Series 53C Direct Drive Vaneaxial Fan is a highly efficient, compact axial flow fan designed to handle relatively clean and corrosive-free air at temperatures not exceeding 122°F. An internal guide vane section ensures maximum efficiency in converting velocity pressure to static pressure with minimal turbulence.
Designed for quiet operation, the Series 53C provides lower sound levels in the highest efficiency ranges and is AMCA-certified for sound and air performance.
Rigid “C” face motor mounts provide support for totally enclosed, fan-cooled motors. The impeller features a split-taperlock bushing for easy installation and removal.
Standard sizes are 18 through 42″. Fans are designed for mounting in any position from horizontal to vertical.
Belt Drive Vaneaxial Fan
Series 54 Belt Drive Vaneaxial Fans are highly efficient, axial flow fans designed for static pressures up to 12″. They also offer the compactness and in-line configuration of axial flow fans. In installations where air is at elevated temperatures or contaminated, Hartzell Series 55 fans should be used.
Nine heavy-gauge, steel-discharge, guide vanes are welded in the casing. These aerodynamically designed straightening vanes maximize efficiency by minimizing turbulence and converting velocity pressure to static pressure for increased capability.
Available in both “G” (general industrial) and “H” (heavy industrial) duty. “G” duty construction incorporates pivot-style motor mounting and flange-mounted ball or roller bearings. Applications are limited by selection point and motor horsepower (see bulletin for details). “H” duty construction incorporates motor mounting platform and pillow block, foot-mounted ball or roller bearings. Available in all sizes.
Hartzell offers two types of Series 54 fans. Type VA, available in standard sizes 12 through 60″, offers a wide performance range. Type VB, sizes 18 through 48″, has a lower blade pitch and a higher hub-to-diameter ratio that makes it more efficient at high pressures. Type VB is available only in “H” duty construction. Fans are designed for mounting in any position from horizontal to vertical.
Special Duty Direct Drive Duct Vaneaxial Fan, Type VB
Series 56 Special Duty Direct Drive Vaneaxial Fans are available in sizes 14 to 48″ with air deliveries from 2,580 to 57,200 CFM. They are designed to be used from 4 to 14″ static pressure. VB blowers were developed to meet the demand for equipment handling low-volume, high-pressure requirements. Standard sizes are 14 through 48″.
Series 56 Fans feature Hartzell’s VB wheel, which was developed to meet the demand for low-volume, high-pressure requirements. A low pitch and a higher hub-to-diameter ratio make this impeller more effective than the VA models at high pressures while moving a relatively smaller volume of air.
The wheels are cast-aluminum, machined and hand-ground. They are dynamically balanced to ensure vibration-free operation at high tip speeds.
Direct Drive, Adjustable Pitch Vane Axial Fan
Series 65 vaneaxial fans feature adjustable pitch blades in direct drive units. Standard sizes are 35 to 79″, with flow rates from 5,900 to 232,500 CFM at free air.
Individual blades are secured to the hub with a lock washer and nut. The blades can be quickly adjusted for future changes in capacity without removing the propeller from the motor shaft.
The series 65 includes an external vane section. Foot-mounted motors are standard to provide easy replacement. A heavy-duty, motor-mounting plate provides positive alignment and support. Blade tip clearance is consistently maintained.
Direct Drive, Adjustable Pitch Vane Axial Fan, C-Faced Motor
Series 65C vaneaxial fans feature adjustable pitch blades in direct drive units. Standard sizes are 35 to 79″ with flow rates from 6,700 to 210,000 CFM at free air.
Individual blades are secured to the hub with a lock washer and nut. The blades can be quickly adjusted for future changes in capacity without removing the propeller from the motor shaft.
The Series 65C includes internal vanes, which provide a more compact installation package. Heavy-gauge, steel discharge guide vanes are welded in the casing. These aerodynamically designed straightening vanes maximize efficiency and minimize turbulence, converting velocity pressure to static pressure for increased capability.
Designed for quiet operation, the Series 65C provides lower sound levels in the highest efficiency ranges and is AMCA-certified for sound and air performance. C-faced TEFC motors are standard.
Adjustable Pitch Vane Axial Fan
The Series 66 is for installations where it is advantageous to have the motor out of the airstream or the versatility of a belt drive configuration. Eleven heavy-gauge, steel-discharge, guide vanes are welded in the blower housing. Standard drives are fixed pitch. Variable pitch drives are available upon request.
